“the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

The alphabet embodies this truism. No matter which language you speak, or which country you come from, the ideas you articulate, the sentence you speak, the words you say can all be broken down into syllables and characters. To know all the letters of the alphabet is to know a fact. To know what they mean together is to have knowledge.

Knowledge, wisdom, truth cannot be learned but only acquired through the gleaning of many morsels of experience, advice, and information. My project is an exploration of the whittling down and organization of knowledge. These pieces have had a significant influence on my life, but when deconstructed into their most basic part (letters) their meaning and influence can not be understood by the viewer.
